Last night Rachel attended the Grand Final of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy in London. The event is the highlight of the hairdressing industry with competitors from all corners of the U.K putting on their glad rags to enjoy the gala evening. The evening showcases the best talent the U.K has to offer. Back in April, the first stage of the competition started with salons sending their entries to L’Oréal in their thousands, some in form of photos and others in video. They where judged by a line up of industry gurus, who had the arduous job of whittling them down to regional finalist. The regional finals where then held and the best of the best where shortlisted to compete at the Grand Final in London. The South West regional, which included Northern Ireland, had the largest amount of entries and Rachel was one of the few to get through to this stage. Her video entry took over 16 hours to film and edit and had to be no more than 1 minute long, showing a before and after image of her model and explain her inspiration and technical know how. In June, she attended the next stage of the competition at L’Oréal head office in Hammersmith London, where she was quizzed by the judges on her knowledge and technical ability.
The night of the final arrived and Rachel headed to London for an evening of excitement and champagne. The evening started with an amazing show of Avent-Garde hair and then the host of the evening took to the stage. The U.K’s very own Twiggy was hosting the evening. As the lights where dimmed, the room shushed (quite a feat with a room full of hairdressers) and the nail biting began. A smoldering Twiggy came to the “Young Colourist of the Year Award” and announced that Rachel had won. It wasn’t until her name flashed on the giant screens that she comprehended that she had won. Rachel made her way to the stage surrounded by applause to accept her award from Twiggy. “The rest of the evening was like a dream” Rachel explained, ” I truly couldn’t believe it”.
Well it goes without saying that we are all thrilled with the result and very proud of Rachel, who worked so hard. A well deserved win.
